On September 22nd, Team Transplant– the American Transplant Foundation’s charity running group- participated in the 2012 Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon Series.

Gavin Maitland, a double-lung transplant recipient, joined the Team as they ran to raise awareness regarding the importance of organ donation and to prove that transplant patients can live active, healthy lives.

“When you go through a transplant, you feel like the world’s at an end, and you think the best you’ll be able to do is to brush your teeth,” Maitland said. “Now I can run a half marathon. People who have had transplants can do whatever they want to do.”

Maitland completing his first half marathon since his 2008 lung transplant.
