Colorado Living Organ Donor Insurance Act Signed by Governor Polis!
We are thrilled to announce that on Thursday, May 30th, 2019 Governor Polis signed the Colorado Living Donor Insurance Act. By Signing this bill, Governor Polis ensured that in 2020 it will officially be a law that health, life, disability, and long-term care insurers cannot discriminate against living organ donors by charging them high premiums or denying them insurance coverage.
We couldn’t be happier that this is the second year in a row that all of our efforts have paid off and we have successfully passed a bill. The Colorado Living Organ Donor Insurance Act compliments the Living Organ Donor Support Act that the American Transplant Foundation fought to pass in 2018.
This new bill exemplifies the actions that other states can and should take to protect living donor rights. As the only non-profit that fought to protect living donors in this way, Thursday, May 30th, 2019 was a proud day for the American Transplant Foundation in our fight to make Colorado the first state in the nation where nobody dies while awaiting an organ transplant.

A message from the American Transplant Foundation’s Executive Director, Anastasia Henry: “We applaud the Colorado legislators and all of our volunteers who made this bill the best that it can be. We are thrilled with the success of this bill and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure living organ donors are protected in the way they deserve to be.”
