Thank You, ATF Summer Interns: A Season of Heart, Help, and Hope
With the summer coming to an end, all of us here at the American Transplant Foundation wanted to take a moment to celebrate an extraordinary group of people who helped make our summer such a success: our ATF summer interns.
At the American Transplant Foundation, we believe that no one should die while waiting for a lifesaving transplant. Through our three-tier approach of education, emotional, and financial support, we work day in and day out to reduce the national transplant waitlist by maximizing living organ donations. With this approach, the AFT is proud to aid living donors, transplant recipients, and family members nationwide.
We are so fortunate to have had such an incredible group of interns who gave so much of their time, talent, and heart to join us in our live-saving mission.

The extent of our intern’s work:
Due to the smaller size of our organization, the American Transplant Foundation gives our interns a real responsibility, and they all stepped up to the challenge and exceeded expectations. Across our streams of outreach, communication, operations, and program assistance, our interns helped real people stay informed while feeling supported.
Throughout the summer, our interns contributed to strengthening the programs that help the ATF make an impact, including:
- Patient Assistance Program (PAP): financial assistance for vulnerable transplant recipients and living donors.
- 1+1=LIFE Mentorship Program: one-on-one emotional support from trained mentors who understand the transplant journey.
- Potential Living Donor Database: education and tools for people who want to become living donors and those searching for one.

Celebrating our interns’ and their achievements:
Through ATF events like The Transplant Games of America, Donor Dash, and Team Rocky Mountain, this summer was filled with connection and community. At each of these events, we built lasting connections through hearing stories from members of the transplant community from across the country. We are so grateful for all the hard work and contributions that our interns put into these events. Without your efforts, these events would not have been the huge successes that they were.
We are especially grateful for how much time our interns were able to give to our cause. This summer, Gayatri Kavumkal, Aziza Lee, Elizabeth Cothran, Bridget Kim, and Claire Baker dedicated the most hours to advancing ATF’s lifesaving work. Their hard work did not go unnoticed; we cannot thank you enough!
A special shout-out to Elizabeth, our digital marketing intern, for her work in and out of the office. On top of her outstanding work in our marketing sector, she placed among the top 30 out of the thousands of Donor Dash participants! An incredible accomplishment on a day dedicated to honoring donors, recipients, and families.
We could not be prouder to celebrate Kayla on her acceptance to medical school. Congratulations, Kayla! We are honored to have been a part of your journey and are so excited to see all you accomplish in the medical world!
Finally, we want to recognize Gayatri, who truly went above and beyond this summer. She brought crucial initiative and followed through to our new programs that has made a lasting difference. We’re so proud of you, Gayatri, and thankful for everything you contributed.
