Igal Kam, MD

Dr. Igal Kam began his medical studies in 1969 at the University of Pisa in Italy. He received his MD at the Institute of Technology Israel in 1976. He is a board member of the American Transplant Foundation and is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Dr. Kam was awarded the President’s Award of Leadership in 2007 from the University of  Colorado Hospital and was a nominee for the Denver Business Journal Lifetime Champion in Health Care Award in 2010. He specializes in liver transplantation, living donor liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, living donor kidney and pancreas transplantation, and all major liver surgery.

In the past 25 years, Kam has reinvented the university’s Transplant Program, transplanting some 1,800 livers, 3,000 kidneys and 150 pancreases. He performed the first “adult to adult” live donor liver transplant in the western world.  Kam wants to see the program continue to grow, and he describes himself as someone who is “still learning, trying to push the envelope.”
