The American Transplant Foundation works collaboratively with several organ donation groups to reach common goals and to promote training, education and better policy. Some of the partners include:
American Society of Transplantation is an organization of professionals dedicated to advancing the field of transplantation and improving patient care by promoting research, education, advocacy, and organ donation. The history of the AST starts in 1981, when the charter members met at the annual American Society of Nephrology (ASN) meeting. Here, they decided a separate society should be organized for transplant physicians. Thus, the American Society of Transplant Physicians (ASTP) was founded on May 10, 1982 and opened to physicians and health professionals interested in transplantation medicine and biology.
Coalition to Promote Living Kidney Donation is a coalition of fifteen groups, working to foster public policies that support living donors and living kidney donation. We represent kidney patients, living donors, and members of the medical community. We come together to support policies to increase the annual rate of living kidney donation by five thousand transplants within five years.
Donor Alliance is the federally designated non-profit organ procurement organization serving Colorado and Wyoming. As a recognized leader in facilitating the donation and recovery of transplantable organs and tissues, Donor Alliance’s primary objectives are to save and enhance the lives of others. To achieve these objectives, Donor Alliance employs an effective family approach and recovery programs in over 100 hospitals, and increases the awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation through public awareness and education campaigns in its service area.
