Colorado Living Donor Day 2017

First Annual Colorado Living Donor Day

Tuesday, June 13th, 2017

The American Transplant Foundation, based in Denver, is striving to make Colorado the first state in the country where no one dies while waiting for a lifesaving kidney. The Foundation is partnering with CBS4 and the transplant community to celebrate living donors on the First Annual Colorado Living Donor Day.

Tune in to CBS4 on the evening of Tuesday, June 13th to learn about living organ donation and how you can be involved. Call the help center line until 7:00 pm at
303-831-HELP (4357) to talk to our team and get your questions answered.

Over 2,500 Colorado residents are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.
The transplant waiting list has increased 50% in Colorado in the past decade compared to the national 25.6% with organ registration only increasing 9%.
97% of Coloradans on this list need a kidney or a liver, organs that can be donated by a living person.
Focusing on living donation is the only immediate solution for saving these lives.
If just 1 out of every 3,000 Coloradans donated a kidney, we could eliminate the kidney waiting list.

2016 Transplant Leadership Council Holiday Party

Posted on 22. Dec, 2016 in Events, Past Events, Recent Events

We celebrated the American Transplant Foundation’s Transplant Leadership Council’s (TLC) successes in 2016 at our annual holiday party.

This year our guests walked the red carpet at our Oscars themed event, complete with celebrity games, a signature ‘Red Carpetini’ cocktail, and awards such as ‘Best Dressed.’

The main events of the night featured a silent auction and our Tree of Life, which raised funds for transplant patients and their families. We also presented some special awards to TLC members who have gone above and beyond for the Foundation in 2016.

Thank you to our presenting sponsor Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center, Steve Lynds Photography for capturing the evening, Dr. Michael Shomaker for providing the venue, Work & Class for their delicoius food, and Ratio Beerworks for their beer tasting.

We look forward to seeing what the TLC can achieve in 2017!

2016 Annual Tree of Life

Posted on 29. Nov, 2016 in Connections: A Blog about Life!, Events, Past Events, Recent Events

The American Transplant Foundation is again helping bring cheer this holiday season to the families of transplant and dialysis patients in need.
Some are single parents who are worried they won’t be able to afford gifts for their kids.
Some have experienced hardships since their transplant surgery, such as losing a job or experiencing medical complications, and are struggling to make ends meet this season.
Some are families with young children whose parents both underwent transplant surgeries and are worried they won’t be able to provide for their children.

We need YOUR help this December to make these patients and their families’ holidays a bit brighter.

Your 100% tax deductible donation will help us fund gift cards to Target that we are distributing to all patients in need. The suggested donation is $25 and can be made:

Online, please put “Tree of Life” in the comments.

See how your contribution can make a big impact in others’ lives this holiday season from previous years’ responses.

Michele, a current dialysis patient

I want you to know how grateful and thankful I am that you made me a part of your family. Thank you! I was not able to be with my family and had no money, Your gift card helped me so much – I bought food. All I can think is God must have sent you to answer my prayers.
Thank you so much!

I am blessed to have someone who cares about me and supports me in my darkest and most difficult time. You are really an angel. Thank you and God bless you!

Transplant Hero Awards Gala 2016

Posted on 15. Jun, 2016 in In The News, Past Events, Recent Events

In honor of 10 years of service, and to recognize heroes who have gone above and beyond to advance the transplant community and to save lives through living organ donation, the American Transplant Foundation hosted an incredible celebration of life on June 11th.
Honorees, community leaders, transplant recipients, living donors, and medical professionals gathered at the Ritz-Carlton to enjoy a memorable evening. Oz Pearlman, mentalist and finalist on America’s Got Talent, was the evening’s emcee and dazzled guests with his mind reading skills. Attendees were also treated to an acoustic performance by The Fray members Joe King and Isaac Slade, including the song “How to Save a Life,” for which the award for altruistic living donors is named.

Team Transplant at Elephant Rock 2016

Team Transplant Rides Elephant Rock 2016 was one for the books!

This year, our team comprised of 18 health care professionals, 8 transplant recipients, 8 living kidney and liver donors, 7 donor family members, and many supporters for a team total of 82 members.  Together, we raised over $43,000 to provide mentorship and financial grants to the most vulnerable living donors and transplant recipients.

Go Team Transplant!

Team Transplant members were treated to many perks including free smoothies and massages, tasty treats like VooDoo doughnuts, Bobo’s Oat Bars and Deep River Valley potato chips, and amazing raffle prizes including a trip to Panama.  We also had a Pasta Party catered by Lechuga’s Italian Restaurant the Friday before the ride where we gave away fantastic prizes like a two night stay at the Ritz and dinner at Elway’s, passes to Disneyland and a beach getaway to the island of St. Lucia.

This year, we also added a surprise fundraising twist: we left fundraising open until June 8th and at that time, all Team Transplant riders that raised $300 were entered into a raffle to win two tickets to our Transplant Hero Awards Gala.  Congratulations to Renee Quintana and Miguel Nunez – we loved having you at the Gala!
