gerard- Looking for liver donor blood type O

"I understand that this is a very altruistic act, which takes a very selfless person to undertake.  Gratitude for such an act can not be expressed in words."

Gerard— POtential liver Transplant Recipient

My name is Gerard, and I am asking for your help to save my life.

I come from a large family of 3 sisters and a brother (all over the age of possible living organ donors). I was born and raised in Pittsburgh but am currently living in Cleveland.  I was in the army for 6 years. I studied to be a chef and did my externship in Germany.

I enjoy gardening, walking, and cooking-especially for friends. I also enjoy reading and periodically gaming. Due to fatigue, many activities are limited or I'm in need of frequent breaks.

I have a chronic disease called Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and due to pancreatic issues am in need of immediate surgery. The surgeon will not perform the surgery without a new liver because he said I won't survive it without one.

I have been placed on the liver transplant list but am in hopes of finding a live donor because my disease is severe.

I understand that this is a very altruistic act, which takes a very selfless person to undertake. Gratitude for such an act can not be expressed in words. Your choice to commit such an act has my grateful appreciation from the depths of my heart.

A liver transplant will allow me to fulfill my hopes of getting back to a more active lifestyle, to be able to travel, and to spend an active day without fatigue dictating my activities. The best chance I have to get a liver transplant is to receive a portion of one from a living donor.

Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. No waiting and wondering while my body continues to weaken. More so, this surgery is covered for both the donor and the recipient under my health insurance!

If you have any questions or concerns about the living donation process in any aspect, please sign up for the American Transplant Foundation's Potential Living Donor Database and we can provide you with any resources you may need, including speaking with a living organ donor directly.

I would appreciate you sharing this information with anyone that you know who might be interested or a match.

Thank you so much for your consideration!

Gerard
