KEndra C.

My name is Kendra Baugh Childers, and I am asking for your help to save my life.

I became a Type 1 diabetic at the age of 12.  I am now 55, and have entered End Stage Renal Failure.  My journey has not been an easy one.  I lost my husband to cancer when I was 36 years old.  I also was a caregiver to my grandmother who passed away from cancer in 2006.  I lost my Dad and uncle within a month of each other in 2010.  A few months after that, my Mom found out that she had cancer, and I took care of her for the next three years, all the while trying to continue my career as a high school teacher.  My Mom passed away in 2014.  My kidney function began to suddenly decline about a year later.   The stress of my situation as well as the toll of Type I diabetes has led me to where I am now.

I have been on peritoneal dialysis treatments for three and a half years, and I have been accepted as a candidate for a kidney transplant at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.  While making the transplant list is great, there is no guarantee that I will be chosen to receive a kidney from a deceased donor.  Many people die while waiting.

I am searching for someone to become my living donor.  I am asking this of both friends and strangers, because I have no immediate family available to donate.  Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes, and  can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties.  No waiting and wondering while my body continues to weaken.
