Why LIVING+?
Research shows that programs like LIVING+ significantly increase living donor kidney transplant rates, particularly among marginalized and underserved communities. The original Transplant House Calls program showed a fourfold increase in transplant rates among Black patients.
By combining culturally competent education with peer mentorship, LIVING+ aims to:
- Reduce barriers to living donor kidney transplantation
- Close racial and economic disparities in transplant access
- Empower patients and their communities with knowledge and support
- Increase the number of successful living donor kidney transplants
Session Topics Include
- The Living Donation Process: What to expect every step of the way
- How to Talk About Your Need: Effective strategies for reaching out to potential donors
- Dispelling Myths and Concerns: Get accurate information about living donation safety and outcomes
- Financial and Practical Support: Understanding available resources and assistance programs
- Building Your Support Team: How to involve family, friends, and community in your journey
- Navigating the Transplant System: Resources and tools for success
