“I’m not good at asking for help, and I know this is a big request, but I would never ask if it weren’t absolutely necessary. Any consideration would mean the world to me, and I am forever grateful!”

In Need of a Liver Donor

My name is Mark, and I was diagnosed with liver disease in December 2023. I am a retired police officer and school resource officer, and I currently work as a security officer for the local school district. I love working with the kids and helping provide them with a safe environment to attend school. I’ve been married to my wife for 20 years and am the father of three, as well as a grandfather to a 12-year-old granddaughter and 3-year-old twin grandsons. I enjoy spending time with my family, especially taking trips to Tucson to visit my son in college, and I love being outdoors and working on my house.

This year, the transplant team has determined that a living donor is my best option for a liver transplant. My wife recently tested but was not a match, and while my kids have volunteered to donate, I don’t want to put them through that. My condition is currently stable, but I experience daily aches, as if I have the flu, and have lost much of my upper body strength. I am also limited in how long I can perform physical activities and am on a very reduced work schedule due to my medical condition. I’m a very simple person and my current hopes are to receive a transplant so I can feel good again, along with never taking my new life for granted!

I am looking for a living donor. I am asking this of both friends and strangers, because I have no immediate family that is able to donate. Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. I am compatible with any Type O blood type.

The most difficult part of waiting for a transplant is the want to get better and seeing my family work hard to help me, and feeling inferior by not being able to help with some of the most basic duties I used to be able to perform

Please review existing Living Donor Benefits/Rights to determine which apply to you.

Thank you for considering saving my life.

With deep gratitude,

Mark
