In May 2009, the American Transplant Foundation was pleased to announce that the Sixty-seventh Colorado General Assembly had passed House Bill 09-1347, creating a specialty Donate Life license plate in Colorado!

It took more than three years for the Foundation to collect thousands of signatures from Colorado citizens and to rally support for creating the plate.

Colorado drivers will soon be able to show their support for organ and tissue donation with their license plates when the Donate Life specialty plates become available for purchase on January 1, 2010.

Passing the Legislation

Special thanks go to Representative Kagan and Senator Romer, who sponsored the legislation, and to Representatives Benefeld, Frangas, J. Kerr, McFayden, Nikkel, Primavera, Solano and Senator Spence who signed on as co-sponsors. House Bill 09-1347 was successfully passed in the House of Representatives on April 29, 2009 and in the Senate on May 5, 2009. Governor Bill Ritter signed HB 09-1347 into law on June 1, 2009.

Thank you for your support, Colorado!

We owe this accomplishment to the 4,000 Colorado citizens who pledged their support for a specialty license plate by signing our petition to the legislature. Thank you.

We’d also like to sincerely thank Robin Mitchell, donor mother and volunteer, who testified and shared the story of her son Joe in support of the bill.

Help spread the word!
