“A living-donor liver transplant isn’t just my best hope—it’s my only path back to living, not just surviving. It’s the chance for me to enjoy the moments that make life meaningful—watching my granddaughters grow, celebrating milestones, laughing in the backyard, and being fully present with my family again.”

In Need of a Liver Donor

My name is Carol, and I am asking for your help to save my life. I am 51 years old and on the liver transplant list in Illinois.

My family is my biggest priority. I am so lucky to have my husband by my side. We have been partners through all of life’s ups and downs, and we share a love for travel and exploring new places together. Together, we have three beautiful granddaughters all under the age of three. They have brought so much light and joy into our lives. I want to be the grandmother who’s actively involved in their lives – the one they run to with excitement, not the one who’s always too tired or in too much pain to keep up with them.

I have always been a creative soul who has always found joy in bringing people together. There’s nothing I love more than planning and hosting parties – whether it’s an elaborate themed celebration or an intimate dinner gathering, I thrive on creating special moments for the people I care about. I’ve always been the type to put others first, making sure everyone feels welcomed and celebrated.

I have been battling Crohn’s disease all my life, but now my liver condition has made life unimaginably harder. My diagnosis of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) has put me in a tough spot. I’m in pain almost all the time—exhausted, weak, and I even struggle to get through even the simplest routines. There are days when I can barely find the energy to stand, and the uncertainty of what each day will bring makes planning for the future nearly impossible. My liver is failing and your help.

I am looking for a living donor. I have asked both family members, friends and strangers, but none of them were a match. Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. I am compatible with Type A or O blood type.

It is so hard not knowing what the future holds. Due to my condition, I cannot even plan a week ahead. My family is my life and I wish more than anything to get back to spending time with the ones I love.
Emotionally, it’s heavy. There are moments of fear and sadness that creep in when I think about how much has changed. But even through that, hope is what keeps me going—the hope that with a transplant, I can get back to being the wife, mom, and grandma my family deserves. I dream about the small, beautiful things: school concerts, birthdays, backyard laughter, and just feeling like myself again.

Please review existing Living Donor Benefits/Rights to determine which apply to you.

Thank you for considering saving my life.

With all my love and hope,

Carol
