In Need of a Liver Donor

My name is James, and I am asking for your help to save my life.

I am on the liver transplant list in Pennsylvania.

I am a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend as well as a proud Irishman, an avid history buff, and one of Notre Dame’s biggest fans. My career has been in safety and risk management, with a passion for keeping people safe and thriving. I enjoyed tackling home projects for family members, smiling and whistling, ready to get started. It’s important to me to not just complete a task but to teach others along the way. I always enjoy encouraging others to keep moving in the right direction and giving others hard-earned wisdom.

I have end-stage liver disease. The disease impacts me physically, cognitively, and mentally, impairing my function and quality of life. I am now unable to work or drive and cannot be left alone. I am looking for a living donor to save my life. My best chance at survival is receiving a partial liver through a donor as the waiting list for a deceased donor may take a number of years that my liver may not be able to withstand. The most difficult thing about waiting for a transplant is the unknown. I fear each and every day if I will receive a liver transplant before my liver completely fails. The unknown creates an intense level of anxiety and depression while trying to seek mental help to remain hopeful. My hopes and dreams are to live life to the fullest with deep gratitude to be given a second chance at life. To spend quality time with my wife, son, grandchildren, and all family members who lovingly care for me. I hope to take my grandchildren to school, attend all their school and sport functions and simply just be there for them as their fun and caring grandpop.

I would like to share, with heartfelt tears, my sincere appreciation and thankfulness to anyone considering donating a portion of their liver to me. Anyone willing to share their organ is a special human being. A powerful blessing beyond what words could ever express.

I am looking for a living donor. I am asking this of both friends and strangers as I have no immediate family that can donate. Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. I am compatible with any A or O blood type.

The most difficult part of waiting for a transplant is not knowing what the future holds. I hope to continue to be there with my family and to live life to the fullest. The first step is to contact my transplant center using the information in the box above. The entire process is strictly confidential, and medical costs are covered by my insurance.

Please review existing Living Donor Benefits/Rights to determine which apply to you. Even if you do not have the same blood type, you can donate as part of a paired exchange program.

Thank you for considering saving my life.

With deep gratitude,

James
