In Need of a Liver Donor

My daughter is the center of my world, and my mother is my closest friend. Over the years, I’ve dedicated much of my time to various causes, including my current role with an Anonymous Liver Disease Group. There, I offer support and guide others through the complexities of securing programs, medications, and financial assistance. Looking ahead, I hope to take certification classes and become a mentor for liver disease in my area, where there is a significant lack of information and support for transplant patients.

Right now, my life feels like it’s on hold. I long to be a more active parent to my young daughter, who means everything to me. My health conditions limit my independence, making even simple tasks like driving or going out for a meal challenging. I often feel isolated due to my medical appointments and the need for assistance. I wish to return to work, participate in activities without constant concern for my health, and enjoy the freedom of living alone without depending on my family or disrupting their lives.

The most difficult part of waiting for a transplant is maintaining a positive and grateful attitude while facing skepticism from others who may not see my illness. I also deal with issues like ascites and an umbilical hernia. I’ve remained focused on improving my health and have actively pursued liver transplantation, navigating limited local resources and undergoing multiple evaluations.

If someone is considering donating an organ to me, I would like them to know that my goal with this gift of life is not only to live fully but to give back to the organ transplant community.

  • Step 1

Please contact my Transplant Center to see if you are eligible to donate and call (202) 444-3700.

I am looking for a living donor. I am asking this of both friends and strangers, because I have no immediate family that is able to donate. Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. I am compatible with any Type A or O blood type.

The most difficult part of waiting for a transplant is not knowing what the future holds. I hope to continue a lifetime of serving as an advocate for the transplant community and raising my daughter. The first step is to contact my transplant center using the information in the box above. The entire process is strictly confidential and medical costs are covered by my insurance.

Please review existing Living Donor Benefits/Rights to determine which apply to you.

Thank you for considering saving my life.

With deep gratitude,

Jamilla
