“My hope is to see my children graduate from high school and college, maybe even start their adult lives. Also, spend time with my husband, traveling and just sitting on the beach, things we have put off for the sake of sports and all things kids.”

In Need of a Liver Donor
After my diagnosis, I started to slow down and have made it a priority to spend more time with my family. I have a loving husband and together we have two children, a daughter and a son. Given my health condition, I know how important it is too keep my body and mind active. I read regularly and spend as much time outside as possible by hiking, walking, bird watching, and yoga. I also was a teacher and administrator for 20 years. I find great joy in being able to help others, especially the kids and families I was able to work with.
Three years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. Currently, I am being treated for Stage IV Colon Cancer that has spread to my liver. I have has 60 chemo treatments and four liver resection surgeries. Treatment is helping, however my doctors are worried that I am running out of options, thus encouragement to work toward a new liver. The treatments are working to keep the tumors from growing, but how long that will continue to be effective and how long my body can handle the chemo is uncertain.
I am looking for a living donor. I am asking this of both friends and strangers as I have no immediate family that can donate. Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. I am compatible with Type O or Type A blood type.
The most difficult part of waiting for a transplant is not knowing what the future holds. I hope to be able to get back to helping kids and their families. The first step is to contact my transplant center using the information in the box above. The entire process is strictly confidential, and medical costs are covered by my insurance.
Please review existing Living Donor Benefits/Rights to determine which apply to you.
Thank you for considering saving my life.
With deep gratitude,
Julie
