” I am committed to making the most of the blessing of a new kidney, and not taking for granted a new lease on life.”

In Need of a Kidney Donor

My name is Richard, and I am asking for your help to save my life.

I am originally from London, England, but moved to Florida in 1984. I used to work in the music industry in England; I DJ’d in London and owned a record shop. My favorite genres of music are Motown, R&B, and Soul. I am also an avid sports fan of many sports, English football being my passion. I ran marathons and coached junior soccer. Now, I am a retired chocolatier and care for my five-year-old West Highland Terrier, Findlay, with my wife of 21 years, Jo Anna.

I was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure in October 2021. I immediately began at-home peritoneal dialysis, which was successful until December 2024. I suffered a tear in my diaphragm, which cannot be repaired surgically. This allowed the dialysis fluid to repeatedly enter my pleural cavity and fill my right lung with fluid. As a result, I spent two weeks in the hospital, had several procedures, and ultimately had to switch to hemodialysis. I am grateful I have the opportunity to be on dialysis, as it affords me the chance to go on living. Yet, it is enormously draining on me and my wife; our lives revolve around dialysis and doctor appointments. More than anything, I would love to be able to spend time with my wife in retirement doing enjoyable things and being together.

Please contact my transplant coordinator below if you would like to learn more or be tested to become my donor. You will need my name: Richard K.

    Transplant Coordinator:

    305-355-5000

I am looking for a living donor. I am asking this of both friends and strangers, because I have no immediate family that is able to donate. Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. I am compatible with any Type B blood type. Even if you do not have the same blood type, you can donate as part of a paired exchange program.

The most difficult part of waiting for a transplant is not knowing what the future holds. I hope to continue a lifetime of adventures with my wife and spending time with our Findlay. The first step is to contact my transplant center using the information in the box above. The entire process is strictly confidential and medical costs are covered by my insurance.

Please review existing Living Donor Benefits/Rights to determine which apply to you.

Thank you for considering saving my life.

With deep gratitude,

Richard
