In Need of a Kidney Donor

My name is Todd, and I am asking for your help to save my life. I am 24 years old and I am currently on the kidney transplant list in South Carolina.

I currently live at home with my dad and I work at a bowling alley. In my spare time, I love to play golf and bowl. On Thursday nights, I bowl in multiple leagues. In addition, I am also a big sport fan. My two favorite Sports are baseball and hockey and I am a huge fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Rangers.

I have been on the transplant list for 6 years now. When I was 12, I received a transplant but that kidney went into rejection within a year of the transplant. I have been on dialysis for 4 years and I am searching for a living donor to hopefully shorten my time on the transplant list. I also believe that a donation through a living donor is my best chance at a healthy and long lasting life.

Life has gotten pretty monotonous with doing dialysis 3 days a week every week. I’m not able to work a full time job like most people my age due to lack of energy and difficulty scheduling. Maintaining friendships and relationships has also been difficult because I never have the time or energy needed to make meaningful connections with others. Not having the financial means or energy to participate in activities that my peers invite me to is probably the biggest downside to my whole situation right now. Which is why I need your help.

I am looking for a living donor. I am asking this of both friends and strangers, because I have no immediate family that can donate. Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. I am compatible with Type O blood. Even if you do not have the same blood type, you can donate as part of a paired exchange program.

The most difficult part of waiting for a transplant is not knowing what the future hold. After transplant, I hope to get involved in the trades, like becoming a mechanic or HVAC technician so I can provide for myself. In addition, I also want to start living my life like all of my peers have. I hope to be able to go to my first concert and learn how to play guitar. The first step is to contact my transplant center using the information in the box above. The entire process is strictly confidential, and medical costs are covered by my insurance.

Please review existing Living Donor Benefits/Rights to determine which apply to you.

Thank you for considering saving my life.

With deep gratitude,

Todd
