In Need of a Kidney Donor

My name is Warick, and I am asking for your help to save my life.

I was born on a small island in the Caribbean called Antigua. Over forty years ago, I legally migrated to the United States in hopes of building a better life and securing a stable income. I worked hard for many years and found pride in running a small trucking business. My trade as a diesel mechanic, which I practiced for over 50 years, was my passion and brought me a great sense of accomplishment.

I have two biological adult daughters and one chosen daughter, who holds a special place in my heart. She has two children, and they mean the world to me. I used to love attending their competitive games, but in recent years, my health has made that difficult. These days, I am mostly homebound, spending time watching nature shows and political programs. One of my greatest joys was traveling back to Antigua each year to visit family and stay with my favorite uncle, who is now 85 years old and has always been my role model. Unfortunately, air travel is no longer possible for me.

I am currently in the final stages of kidney failure. I undergo dialysis three times a week and spend much of my time at the dialysis center or attending medical appointments. My health has declined significantly: I’ve lost a great deal of weight, I tire easily, and I often struggle with low energy and motivation. My immune system is weakened; I recently battled pneumonia and fluid in my lungs. My sleep is poor, often disrupted by anxiety and a persistent feeling of cold brought on by a low blood count.

Due to the physically demanding nature of my work, I can no longer continue in my trade. Travel has become too difficult, and my social life has diminished. Life has changed dramatically, and while I continue to push forward, these challenges weigh heavily on me.

Please call my Transplant Center to see if you are eligible to donate at (443) 287-5012.

You will need my name: Warick Spence

I am looking for a living donor. I am asking this of both friends and strangers, because I have no immediate family that is able to donate. Living donor transplants generally have better outcomes and can be arranged at a time convenient for both parties. I am compatible with Type O+ blood type. Even if you do not have the same blood type, you can donate as part of a paired exchange program.

The most difficult part of waiting for a transplant is not knowing what the future holds. I hope to spend the rest of my life giving back and cherishing more time with my loved ones. The first step is to contact my transplant center using the information in the box above. The entire process is strictly confidential and medical costs are covered by my insurance.

Please review existing Living Donor Benefits/Rights to determine which apply to you.

Thank you for considering saving my life.

With deep gratitude,

Warick
